PLN?s subsidiary to build power plant Jakarta MRT

State owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) (PLN) has instructed its subsidiary PT Indonesia Power to build a gas engine power plant (PLTMG) in Jakarta dedicated only for the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system the capital in the future, according to a report.

PLN?s Planning Director Nicke Widyawati was quoted by metrotvnews.com the power plant with a capacity of 100 MW will be built in Senayan area starting in 2017.

She explained that Java and Bali is now interconnected through the Java-Bali grid. Thus, the MRT system will be supplied with power from the system. However, in case there is a problem in the supply of power from the system to the MRT, PLN will use the PLTMG as a backup.

The MRT system, the first in the country, is now under construction. It is expected to be completed at the end of 2018. (*)
