The state-owned electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) reported that it managed to save its operational cost at Rp 123 billion during the weeklong Idul Fitri festivity as its peak load dropped by around 40 percent.

The company said in a press release on Wednesday that during the Idul Fitri festivity, from July 28 to August 5, its peak load in the Java-Bali power system was recorded at 14,227 MW, a decrease of around 40 percent from the peak load of 23,420 MW once reached on June 9, 2014.

Due to the decrease of the peak load PLN operational cost for Java-Bali system was cut at Rp 123 billion.

Previously, PLN predicted that its peak load during Idul Fitri festivity would reach 14.470 MW. But it only amounted to 14,227 MW. It was due to the significant decrease of electricity consumption by industries as many companies stopped their operations during the Islamic holiday season.

As a result, PLN decided to put 14 units of combined cycled power plants (PLTU) in Java-Bali system with a generation capacity of 6.706 MW under a rolling reserved shutdown during the weeklong holiday.

Since Tuesday, August 5, all of the power plants returned to normal as industries had resumed their business activities.
