PLN says coal consumption to rise to 63.4 million tons in 2013

State-owned electricity company PT PLN projected that coal consumption for its power plants is projected to increase by 10.64 percent to 63.4 million tons in 2013 from 57.3 million tons estimated for this year.
PLN?s Coal Division Head, Helmi Najamuddin told Petromindo.com on Monday that out of the targeted 57.3 million tons of coal consumption for this year, the company had already consumed around 19.6 million tons in the first half of the year.
Helmi said that PLN has already obtained certainty of coal supply for next year among others from PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) and PT Arutmin, two of the country?s largest coal producers.
He pointed out that PLN has already signed a contract with KPC for the supply of 7.6 million tons of coal next year, and 10.1 million tons with Arutmin. He did not provide further details.
