PLN says development of transmission in Southern Java crucial

The development of the 500 kilo volt power transmission network in the southern part of Java was crucial to support the transmission of power from the over capacity area in the eastern part of Java to the under capacity western part of Java, according to operational director of state electricity firm PLN Tunggono.

Tunggono said that the current 150 kv transmission network in the southern part was no longer sufficient to support the transmission of an increasing amount of power from the eastern part.

He added that the 500 kv power transmission network was also crucial to back up the transmission network in the northern part.

The development of the 500 kv power transmission network in the southern part of Java from Klaten to Tasikmalaya has been in limbo after Bukaka Teknik Utama filed a legal suit at the Administrative Court against PLN for the government recent decision to cancel Bukaka as the winner of the project.

The court is currently processing the case.

Bukaka has initially won the tender for the development of the power transmission project. But the current government later cancelled the appointment of Bukaka. (R. Amoros)
