State electricity company PLN on Saturday denied reports that terrorists were targeting power plants.

?It is not true that terrorists have threatened to destroy our plants,? PLN?s operation director Bambang Hermiyanto told Petromindo.com and Suara Pembaruan daily.

A source at PLN was quoted as saying on Friday that a terrorist network had targeted three power plants in Suralaya and Saguling, West Java, and in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta. State Intelligence Agency (BIN) had informed PLN about it, the source said.

The Suralaya combined cycle plant and the Saguling hydro power plant respectively have capacity of 3,400 megawatts (WW) and 898 MW, while the Tanjung Priok gas powered plant facility has capacity of 1,300 MW. The projects are part of the Java-Bali power transmission system.

Worries about possible attacks on vital energy projects have mounted in the wake of the Bali devastating bombings on Oct. 12. More than 180 people were killed, and some 300 people were injured in the incident. Many of them were foreign tourists. (godang)
