State-owned electricity firm PT PLN is seeking to acquire land for its planned 50 MW gas-engine power plant (PLTMG) project in Timika, Mimika Regency, Papua Province.
PLN Director of Business for Maluku and Papua Region, Haryanto WS said that the company was looking to acquire around 11 hectares of land near the Paumako Port in East Mimika District for the planned power plant project.
He said that the land acquisition process will be handed by a joint team comprising of PLN, Mimika Land Agency, and Mimika regency administration, and other related technical institutions. The team will among others check out the targeted location whether the land there belongs to local people or has been sold to other third parties. Afterward, price negotiation will start. ?At the same time, PLN will also start campaigning for the planned project to the local community,? he said.
In the first phase, PLN will develop a 10 MW power plant capacity, and later expanded to 40 MW, but will be completed in 2018.
Haryanto acknowledged that land acquisition is one of the challenges faced by PLN in developing power plants in Papua due to limited data, difficult geographical condition, and lack of proper road access.
