PLN seeks to buy LNG from Iran

Saturday, August 25 2007 - 01:54 AM WIB

State electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) is exploring the possibility of buying liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Iran for an LNG receiving terminal it plans to build in Cilegon, Banten.

PLN’s Director for Power Plant and Primary Energy Ali Herman Ibrahim said in Jakarta Friday that the company had sent a letter to the Iranian LNG producer  regarding the intention. He did not however specify the Iranian producer.

PLN has approached Qatar to provide LNG for the planned LNG plant, but it has thus far yet to get a positive response from the world's biggest LNG producer.

The firm has tendered the EPC contract for the LNG terminal, but Ali Herman said it would not announce the result of the tender until after there is a certainty regarding LNG supplies for the terminal. (Godang)
