State-owned electricity firm PT PLN is seeking to increase so-called ?local content? in its power plant projects particularly with capacity of up to 100 MW.
Director of Corporate Planning at PLN, Syofvi Felienty Roekman said on Wednesday that while the use of locally-manufactured goods and service in transmission and distribution projects have reached 80 percent, the local content in power plant projects averages at only around 30 percent.
She said that local content in power plant projects is still low given the lack of capacity of domestic manufacturers in providing technology required by PLN particularly generators and turbines.
?The industry (capacity) is still limited. We?re currently focused in increasing local content in power plants with maximum capacity of 100 MW,? Syofvi told Petromindo.com.
She said that PLN, with the assistance of state-owned consultancy services company PT Sucofindo, is currently drafting a roadmap to help realize the local content policy, to list the capacity of domestic manufacturers and what type of products they produce, and what have yet to be developed, particularly generators and turbines, she explained.
She said that PLN currently only use transformers manufactured at home. ?In the past, transformers production was limited, only one or two manufacturers. Now there are six and a number of businesses have expressed interest to manufacture (transformers) here,? she said.
Syofvi said that the largest requirement for power plant projects is boiler and turbine, most of which are still imported.
?The domestic production is still very limited. We have used some domestic-made boilers. But we have to review, whether the boilers have met the requirements of power plants,? she said.
