PLN seeks to reduce electricity loss

Thursday, October 28 2004 - 03:39 AM WIB

State owned electricity company PLN expects to reduce its electricity loss to 12 percent of its capacity this year from about 16 and 17 percent in 2003, Koran Tempo reported on Thursday.

PLN's president Eddie Widiono said in Jakarta on Wednesday that the electricity company was able to reduce the loss to 12.8 percent during the first semester of this year.

"We hope, the loss could be further lowered to 12 percent at the end of this year," he said.

He said that the electricity loss was generally caused by the low quality of power transmission at aging power grids as well as due to electricity theft. (*)
