State electricity firm PLN will pick one contractor to carry out revamping work at the first and the second unit of Suralaya coal-fired power plant next month, a company official said on Thursday.

Deputy Director Tonny Agus Mulayntono said that three Japanese contractors; Marubeni Corp. Sumitomo Corp. and Mitsubishi Corp., had been short-listed. Tonny said the revamping work would cost PLN around US$200 million and the finance would come from loan from Japan’s JBIC.

Tonny said revamping work is expected to start this year. He did not say when the project would be completed.

Suralaya, which is operated by PLN’s wholly-owned subsidiary PT. Indonesia Power, has total capacity of 3,400 MW. Unit 1and 2 has capacity of 400MW each. (godang)
