PLN set to sign PPAs of 19 mine mouth power plant projects

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN is set to sign in October of this year power purchase agreements (PPAs) with independent power producers (IPPs) for 19 mine mouth coal-fired power plant projects (PLTUs) with combined capacity of 8,000 MW, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Friday.
The paper quoted PLN President Director Sofyan Basir as saying that the company has reached agreement with the IPPs on the tariff of electricity from mine mouth power plant projects located in Kalimantan and Sumatra.
Sofyan said that the development of mine mouth power plants forms part of efforts by PLN to help ensure efficient production of electricity in the hope that tariff for consumers can be reduced.
Construction of the projects is expected to start one the PPAs have been signed, the paper said.
The 19 mine mouth power plant projects include 2x300 MW PLTU Jambi Phase 1, 200 MW PLTU Kalselteng 3, 500 MW PLTU Kaltim 5, 300 MW PLTU Sumsel-1, 240 MW PLTU Banyuasin, 300 MW PLTU Sumbagsel-1, 600 MW PLTU Riau-1, 600 MW PLTU Sumsel-6, 600 MW PLTU Sumatra-1, 200 MW PLTU Jambi 1, 350 MW PLTU Sumsel MT (expansion), 1,200 MW PLTU Sumsel-8, 200 MW PLTU Kalselteng-3, 200 MW PLTU Kalselteng-4, 200 MW PLTU Kalselteng-5, 200 MW PLTU Kaltim 3, 200 MW PLTU Kaltim-5, 200 MW PLTU Kaltim-6, and 400 MW PLTU Kaltimra.
