An additional diesel electricity generator with capacity of 1,000 kW (equal to 1 MW) shipped by state-owned electricity firm PT PLN has finally arrived on Tomia Island, Wakatobi, Southeast Sulawesi, on Sunday.

PLN said in a statement that the diesel generator will help increase electricity supply in the island, which is crucial to help develop the local tourism industry popular for its diving spots.

PLN said that the diesel generator was shipped from Semarang on August 15. The company said it requires sometime to install the generator set before starting commercial operation.

Electricity supply on Tomia Island currently comes from five diesel generators at the PLTD Waha Tomia power plant with capacity of 1,000 kW. With peak load of 750 kW, and 3,188 power customers, the people in the island have yet to be able to enjoy electricity for 24 hours a day. With the arrival of the new generator set, PLN expects the people there can enjoy electricity for 24 hours a day.
