State-owned electricity firm PT PLN has started shipment of leased diesel generators to the Sula Islands Regency in North Maluku Province to recover electricity supply after five generating units of the Sanana diesel-fired power plant in the regency were caught on fire Wednesday evening.

PLN said in a statement obtained Friday that 17 diesel generators with combined capacity of 780 kW were scheduled to be shipped on Thursday and are expected to arrive on Sunday to provide electricity initially in vital locations such as hospital and government building compounds.

Other generators are set to be delivered Friday to provide power supply to households. PLN said it has also dispatched a team to fix the diesel-fired power plant following the fire incident, which is still being investigated by related authorities.
