PLN shuts down Cilegon power plant due shortage of gas

Wednesday, June 13 2007 - 07:26 AM WIB

State owned electricity firm PT PLN said that its 740 MW combined cycle power plant in Cilegon, Banten would temporarily stop operating due to the absence of gas supply.

PLN’s primary energy director Ali Herman said on Wednesday that Chinese firm CNOOC that supplies gas to the power plant from its offshore fields north of Jakarta would temporarily stop supplies because it was adding new facilities to its field with the purpose of increasing gas supplies to PLN in the future.

“Based on contract, CNOOC should supply between 85-125 MMSCFD (of natural gas to PLN) but so far they are only able to supply 40 MMSCFD,” Ali said.

PLN would carry out maintenance works during the shutdown, Ali said, adding the shutdown may take one week. (Godang)
