State utility PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) has secured a partnership with PT Siemens Indonesia to develop transmission sub-stations of 275 kilovolt in Padang Sidempuan, North Sumatra, and in Payakumbuh, West Sumatra.
PLN President Director Nur Pamudji, PT Siemens Indonesia President Director Josef Winter, and PT Siemens Indonesia Director Friedrich Brida signed a contract for the development of the sub-stations in Jakarta on Thursday, 25th April 2013.
The sub-stations will connect the power systems in northern part of Sumatra with the southern part that have not been connected yet so far. The sub-stations? development will need a total investment of Rp 363,593 billion, which will be provided with JICA ODA loan, and are expected to be completed within 24 months.
?I hope the development of these sub-stations will utilize local products. A number of products, such as transformators and reactors, needed for the substations have been produced in Indonesia, At least 4o percent of the sub-stations can be produced locally,? said Nur Pamudji.
PT Siemens Indonesia President Director Josef Winter, who has just recently moved from Germany, said that it was the first time he signed a contract of that size in Indonesia. ?Siemens Indonesia has developed a number of sub-stations in a number of locations in Indonesia, such as West Java, Central Java and Lampung,? he said.
Nur Pamudji said that after developing a reliable power system Java-Bali, now PLN turns to Sumatra where it will develop an inter-connected power transmission like in Java and Bali.
