PLN signs cooperation with France

Indonesia?s public utility PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara signed on Wednesday cooperation agreement with French government-controlled electricity firm Electricit? de France (EDF) and French government agency Agence Fran?aise de D?veloppement (AFD).

The cooperation agreement was signed by Murtaqi Syamsuddin, PLN?s Director of Planning and Affiliate Oversight, G?rard Szabason representing EDF, and AFD?s Country Director Ghislain de Valon at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs. Present at the signing ceremony were Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs Indroyono Soesilo and French Ambassador in Indonesia Corinne Breuze, PLN said in a statement.

Under the cooperation agreement, PLN and EDF will share experience in developing low-emission power plants in Indonesia. The program will be financed with 500,000 euro grant from AFD, which is also known as French Development Agency.

The provision of the grant comes in line with AFD?s mandate in Indonesia, that is to promote ?green and inclusive growth?.

PLN has been cooperating with AFD for several years now. AFD has provided several loans for PLN?s projects, particularly renewable energy projects.

Under the cooperation agreement, PLN and EDF will share experience on best practices in planning, operation, marketing, regulation, risk management. PLN and EDF has identified nine areas where they can cooperate in making diagnosis, recommendation and holding seminars or discussions.

The nine areas are:
1. Operation and planning for Java-Bali system
2. Competence in tackling dynamic obstacles on Sumatra system
3. High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) technology
4. Interaction with regulatory authorities and stakeholders of other power system
5. Optimizing and areas of concern. in isolated networks in islands
6. Strengthening distribution network resilience
7. Design and engineering assistance
8. Problems related to voltage stability
9. Calculation of paralel transformers and technical consequence.

The cooperation is expected to be a starting point for both firms in forming a strong and long-term cooperation, PLN said.
