PLN signs EPC contract for Lontar power plant expansion

State-owned electricity firm PT. PLN on Friday signed an EPC contract with a consortium comprising of Sumitomo Corp, Black and Veatch, and PT Sayatmitra Surya Perksa for the Lontar coal-fired power plant expansion project.

PLN said in a statement that the 1x315 MW Lontar power plant expansion project will be built on an 11-hectare area in Lontar Village, Kemiri District, Tangerang Regency, Banten Province, at the same location with the Banten-Lontar 3 coal-fired power plant. Construction process is expected to be completed in 42 months after the contract is effective.

The Banten-Lontar 3 power plant currently has three generating units each with capacity of 315 MW. The expansion project is aimed at strengthening power supply in the Jakarta area under the Java-Bali power network, PLN said.

It added that the project forms part of the planned 35,000 MW of power plants targeted by the government to be developed in five years, of which PLN has been assigned 10,000 MW, while the other 25,000 MW to be developed by private firms.
