PLN signs power purchase agreement for PLTU Pontianak-3

State electricity company PLN has agreed to buy electricity to be produced by PLTU Pontianak-3 coal fired power plant which will be built by a consortium of PT Leyland Pontianak Power, Panin Financial Tbk and Pertama Prima Elektrindo in West Kalimantan .
The power purchase agreement was signed by PLN President Director Nur Pamudji and Leyland President Director Djoko Purwanto on the behalf the consortium in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Under the agreement, PLN will buy electricity from PLTU Pontianak-3 at 9.098 US cent per kWh for 25 years. PLTU Pontianak-3 which will be built with a capacity of 2 x 25 megawatt is one of the power plants that will be operated as an independent power producer (IPP). The plant is expected to begin commercial operation in the third quarter of 2014,
The operation of the new power plant is expected to help power shortage problem in Kalimantan, especially in West Kalimantan. (godang/giok)
