PLN signs power supply MoU with gold miner

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN signed on Tuesday a MoU with gold miner PT Masmindo Dwi Area for the supply of electricity to the latter?s mining operations in Luwu Regency, South Sulawesi Province, starting from construction until reaching production stage in 2019.

?Currently, the electricity supply is 66 kVa for requirement of the basecamp, 5 MW for construction activities (and) increasing to 30 MW when it reaches production stage in 2019,? said General Manager of PLN?s Sulawesi regional office (Sulselrabar) to Petromindo.com following the signing ceremony.

President Director of Masmindo Dwi Area, Boyke Abidin said that the company had in early this year obtained the required AMDAL environmental permit for the gold mining operations, and has started construction activities expected to be completed within the next three years.

?We?re currently at the stage of construction, the electricity requirement will initially to support construction of road and other facilities. Production is targeted to start at the end of 2019 or early 2020 with a volume of 100,000 ounces,? he said.
