PLN signs three MoUs on renewables development

State-owned electricity company PT PLN signed on Wednesday three memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with three French institutions for the development of renewables sector in Indonesia.

PLN said in a statement that the signing of the MoUs in Jakarta were witnessed by visiting French State Minister for Innovation and Digital Industry Christope Sirugue.

The first MoU was made between PLN and Think SmartGrids, a France-based grouping of various experts set up in 2015 which aims to develop smart grid sector in France and promote French solutions in Europe and other parts of the world. The MoU, signed by PLN Planning Director Nicke Widyawati and Chairman of Think SmartGrids Philippe Monloubou, is aimed for the transfer of knowledge on planning and implementation of smart grids in integrating renewables energy to existing electricity system.

The second MoU was between PLN and PT Akuo Energy Indonesia (AKI), a local subsidiary of France-based renewable energy company Akuo Energy, on feasibility study and system analysis on the utilization of solar and wind energy. The MoU was signed by Nicke and President Director of AKI Christophe Moyon.

The third MoU was between PLN and Pace Energy Pte Ltd, a Singapore subsidiary of France-based EREN Renewable Energy, on feasibility study on the utilization of solar and wind energy. The MoU was signed by Nicke and Managing Director and CEO of Pace Energy Michael Vawser.

Nicke said in the statement that the signing of the MoUs forms part of efforts by PLN to further develop the huge potential of renewables in Indonesia which is targeted to account for 23 percent of the energy mix in the country by 2025.
