PLN signs transmission contracts worth Rp 2.1 trillion with contractors

State owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) contracts worth Rp 2.1 trillion (1US$= 9,250) with a number of national contractors to build electricity transmission and main relay stations (GI) for the Java-Bali and Northern Sumatra power grids.

The electricity transmission project is part of the government program to expedite the building of coal fired power plants having a total capacity of 10,000 MW.

"The directly connected transmission networks are hopefully completed in six months after coal-fired power plant (PLTU) come into operation," PLN's Director of Transmission and Distribution Affairs Herman Darnel Ibrahim said after signing the contracts in Jakarta on Monday said.

Herman said that of the contracts signed on Tuesday, 18 were for the construction of transmission networks as long as 607 km for the Northern Sumatra grid covering the provinces of North Sumatra, Nangroe Aceh Darussalam and Riau. The projects are valued at Rp 1.601 trillion. Besides, five contracts were signed for the construction 154.4 km transmission network and 2x60 MVA GI to support the Java ? Bali electricity system. The projects are valued at Rp 516.8 billion.

The Northern Sumatra 275 kV transmission network will be connected to the Meulaboh coal-fired power plant in Nangroe Aceh Darussalam, the Sarulla geothermal power plant and Asahan hydropower plant, both in North Sumatra. The new network will expand electricity transmission in the three provinces.

"In addition, there are projects to develop 150-kV GI, transmission network and GI that will be connected to the Labuan coal-fired power plant, uprating transmission network and GI that will be connected to the Rembang coal fired power plant and to fortify transmission to supply electricity in Bali," said Herman.

Previously, PLN signed four contracts valued Rp 127 billion to build electricity system in Pikitiring, South Sumatra. The contracts for the building of transmission network and GI (4 x 30 MVA) were signed to expand the distribution of electricity in the Southern Sumatra system. (godang)
