State owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) signed on Friday engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts with a Chinese firm and a Chinese-led consortium to develop two coal fired power plants under the government's 10,000 MW power projects.

Chinese firm Sinohydro Corp signed a contract worth Rp 795.02 billion (1US$=9,215) and US$160.9 million to build the 2x110 MW Nagan Raya power plant in Aceh Nanggroe Darusallam, PLN?s president director Fahmi Mochtar told reporters.

PLN also signed a contract with the consortium of China National Machinery Corp. - China National Electric Equipment Corp. - PT Penta Adi Samudra with a total value at Rp 1.49 trillion and $480.77 million to build the 2x350 MW Tanjung Awar-Awar power plant in East Java.

Both projects are expected to be completed 24-33 months after the signing of the contracts, he said.

?With the signing of the contracts, contracts for almost all power projects to be built under the government?s 10,000 MW crash program on Java island almost have been signed. There is only one contract that has yet to be signed, that is the contract for the development of 1x600-700 MW Cilacap power plant in Central Java,? he said.

PLN has also planned to build 25 power plants outside Java under the 10,000 MW program but has thus far only signed contracts for 10 projects.

PLN expects to sign the remaining projects in the middle of 2008 at the latest. (Godang)
