PLN Sorong gets extra supply from gas engine plant

State-owned electricity company PLN?s Sorong operational area in West Papua has obtained an additional 10 MW power supply from the Waymon gas engine power plant as the company continues efforts to switch to gas from the more expensive diesel fuel in a bid to save cost.

PLN said in a statement Sunday that the supply from the Waymon power plant started April 1, a day after it switched off the Klasaman Sorong 4 MW diesel-fired power plant.

The additional 10 MW has increased the supply from the Waymon power plant to the PLN Sorong operational area to 20 MW.

The Waymon gas engine power plant is owned by PT Waymon Energi, one of the three power producers in the area which have excess power, the statement said.

PLN said that going forward the company would continue efforts to switch to gas-fired power plant from diesel fuel to save cost by utilizing the gas resources in Sorong.
