PLN South Sumatra to get additional power supply until 2013

Southern Sumatera region will get at least additional 778 megawatt of power supply from now until 2013 following the operation of a number of new power plants, said M. Irwansyah Putra, Manager for Production of PLN for the Southern Sumatera region said.

There are three power plants that will commence operation in the near future, namely gas-fired power plant PLTG Payo Selincah with capacity of 100 MW; PLTG Talang Duku with capacity of 56 MW and PTG Borang with capacity of 66 MW.

The power plants are developed by independent power producers (IPPs) and will commence operation in March 2012, November 2011 and February 2012 respectively.

Meanwhile, there are six power plants owned by PLN that are being constructed that will commence operation within the next couple of years.

The six power plants are PLTMG Sei Gelam, Jambi with capacity of 104 MW (July 2012); coal-fired power plant PLTU Sibalang, Lampung with capacity of 2x100 MW (March 2012); PLTU Teluk Sirih with capacity of 2x100 MW (September 2012); Ulubelu geothermal power plant with capacity of 2x55 (July 2012); PLTGU Jambi with capacity of 38 MW (October 2013); and PLTGU Keramasan with capacity of 84 MW (July 2013).

At present, the total power supply to the southern Sumatera region reaches 1,699 MW. Of which 1,536 MW are supplied by PLN-owned power plants and 163 MW come from independent power producers. (bernard).
