PLN starts construction of Marunda-Kalibaru high voltage transmission cable

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN started on Wednesday construction of the Marunda-Kalibaru 150 kV high voltage transmission cable, which once completed will help bolster reliability of electricity supply for the planned expansion of the country?s main Tanjung Prior Port and the development of a new Kalibaru Priok Port, in Jakarta, by state-owned port operator PT Pelindo II.

PLN Business Director for western Java region, Murtaqi Syamsuddin said in a statement that construction of the Marunda-Kalibaru transmission cable is targeted to be completed in December of this year.

Construction of the Rp 239 billion project is being conducted by a company called PT Karya Mitra Nugraha.

Murtaqi said that the cable used in the project is produced by IDX-listed PT Kabel Metal Indonesia Wire & Cable Tbk, while installation work is entirely carried out by local workers, thus making the project to have local content ratio of 87.21 percent.

PLN said that the Marunda-Kalibaru transmission cable project forms part of programs to increase power supply reliability in the Priok-Bekasi sub-system.
