PLN starts construction of PLTU Asam-Asam unit 3 & 4

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN had on December 9 held a ground-breaking ceremony to mark the start of construction of unit 5 and 6 of the PLTU Asam-Asam coal fired power plant in South Kalimantan Province.

PLN said in a statement obtained Tuesday that the two new units have a combined capacity of 2x100 MW, which once completed will bring the total capacity of PLTU Asam-Asam to 460 MW.

PLN said that construction of the unit 5 and 6 forms part of the government?s 35,000 MW power plant development program. The company did not say when construction of the two units will be completed.

The power plant, located in Asam-Asam village, Jorong district, Tanah Laut Regency, supplies electricity to PLN consumers in South and Central Kalimantan provinces.
