PT. PLN has started the development of Mentok sub-station of 150 kilo Volt (kV) with a capacity of 1x30 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA) in West Bangka, Bangka Belitung Province.

The state-owned utility company said in a press release on Tuesday that it was marked with a ground breaking ceremony led by PLN?s southern Sumatra development unit General Manager Dady Murihno, and attended by West Bangka Regent Parhan Ali, West Bangka Deputy Regent Markus, and West Bangka Regional Parliamentary Council (DPRD) Speaker Hendra Kurniady.

Until now, the sub-system of power in West Bangka, especially Mentok, is still supplied by the diesel-fuel power plant (PLTD) Muntok through the high voltage transmission (SUTM) of 20 kilo Volt which is prone to disturbances.

?We?re very grateful to the local government and the Bangka Belitung high prosecutors office for their assistance in the process of land clearing for the development of this sub-station,? said Dady Murihno during the ceremony.

When finalized, the power supplied to the Mentok substation will be connected to the power system of Bangka through the Kelapa-Mentok high voltage transmission (SUTT) of 150 kV which is being constructed into a line of 187 points.

The sub-station, which is expected to be finalized in 2018, will strengthen the power system of Mentok which in turn reduce blackouts due to disturbances.

It will also increase power supply in the region as the excess power of 2x25 Mega Watt (MW) in Pangkalpinang can be distributed to Mentok.
