PLN starts operation of Kupang-Atambua transmission facility

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN has started operation of two substations and an elevated high voltage power line, allowing the transmission of electricity all the way from Kupang, the capital of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province, to Atambua, the capital of Belu Regency, which borders with Timor Leste, Binis Indonesia reported on Wednesday.

The paper quoted Machnizon Masri, Business Director at PLN for Sulawesi and Nusa Tenggara regions, as saying that two substations, namely the 1x20 MVA GI Kefamenanu and the 1x20 MVA GI Atambua, and a 70 kV elevated high voltage power line linking Kefamenanu and Atambua with total length of 75 km have started operations, linking the transmission line in the Timor electricity system in NTT.

The Timor electricity system is supplied by electricity from a number of power plants including 14 MW Bolok coal-fired power plant, 60 MV mobile vessel power plant, 5 MW Oelpuah solar power plant, 6.4 MW Tenau and Kuanino diesel-fired power plant (PLTD), 0.52 MW PLTD Soe, 1.4 MW PLTD Kefa, 5.5 MW PLTD Atambua.(*)
