State electricity firm PT PLN said on Tuesday it was still unable to secure gas supplies for its power plants that are scheduled to undergo repowering process.

?We are still waiting for gas supplies from Medco, Pertamina and PGN,? Ali Herman Ibrahim, PLN?s primary energy and generation director, said.

PLN?s president Eddie Widiono said the repowering program would be carried out using loans from JBIC.

Under the agreement with JBIC signed in 2005, PLN is not allowed to launch the tendering process for the repowering program until after it secure gas supplies for the power plants.

According to Eddie, the repowering program would be carried out at gas-turbined power plants in Muara Karang and Tanjung Priok, each with the capacity of 720 MW, both located in the greater Jakarta area.

In February this year, however, Muljo Adji AG, the head of PLN's distribution and power traffic control, said the repowering would be carried out at Muara Karang, Tanjung Priok and Muara Tawar power plants. (Godang)
