PLN strengthens Java-Bali electricity system

State-owned electricity company PT PLN has successfully operated a 500-kilovolt extra high voltage power line comprising of 35 towers as part of the Java-Bali interconnection system, Kompas reported on Monday.

The paper quoted PLN Senior Manager for Public Relations Agung Murdifi as saying that the first circuit has been in operation since September 22 of last year, and the second since January 20 of this year. The 14 kms circuits, which can each transmit 1,200 MW of electrical power, connect the PLTU 2 Jawa Tengah Adipala coal-fired power plant with New Rawalo relay station in Kesugihan, Central Java.

Augung said that the power line will strengthen the Java-Bali power system.

He added that in the near future, PLN will operate another extra high voltage power line linking the Cilacap coal-fired power plant and the Adipala coal-fired power plant. (*)
