PLN suspends commissioning of MVPP in N. Sulawesi

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN suspended Thursday the commissioning of the Zeynep Sultan 120 MW Marine Vessel Power Plant (MVPP) stationed in the waters of Amurang, Minahasa Selatan, North Sulawesi, as extreme weather condition has damaged the onshore gantry used to distribute electricity from the plant to the North Sulawesi-Gorontalo transmission network.

PLN said in a statement that it would try to repair the gantry as quickly as possible to allow the MVPP resume electricity supply.

The company said that the MVPP had undergone commissioning for two days, before it was suspended on Thursday, producing up to 7 MW power to the North Sulawesi-Gorontalo grid.

To help deal with future extreme weather condition, Karpower, the owner of the MVPP, is developing a jetty and break water facility to help avoid the vessel from being hit by strong high waves.
