State-owned electricity firm PT PLN has decided to suspend the planned development of the 2x1,000 MW PLTU Jawa-5 coal-fired power plant project pending completion of upcoming revision of its electricity procurement business plan (or RUPTL).
PLN Procurement Director Supangkat Iwan Santoso said on Monday that the company annually revises the RUPTL to be adjusted to the country?s economic growth, electricity demand and government long-term plans.
He added that even if it is not suspended, the PLTU Jawa-5 project would not be completed by 2019 as initially targeted.
PLN has previously appointed its subsidiary PT Indonesia Power (IP) to develop the project, canceling an earlier tender process held to select independent power producer for the project, in the hope that construction of the project can be completed in 2019.
IP is supposed to team up with a private investor. This portal reported earlier that Japanese firms such as Marubeni, Mitsubishi, Mitsui, and Sumitomo, as well as IDX-listed coal giant PT Adaro Energy Tbk are competing to become IP?s partner in the project, to be located in Banten Province.
