State-owned electricity company PLN has set a target for the Cibuni geothermal power plant in West Java to start commercial operation (COD) in 2016.

The geothermal project, run by the Teknosa KJK cooperatives, is currently completing exploration stage and has just started exploitation work.

?The obstacle in this project is internal conflict within the developer,? said Head of New Energy and Renewable Energy Division at PLN, Muhammad Sofyan.

He added that due to the lingering conflict, the developer and the government have yet to reach agreement on the selling price of the electricity to be produced by the project.

?We?re still waiting for legal settlement of the internal conflict (within the developer). We hope that this could be concluded as soon as possible so that the power plant can start COD in 2016,? Sofyan said, while adding that the plant will have a capacity of 1x10 MW.
