PLN targets to generate additional 3351 MW in 2012 fast-track program

State-owned utility firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) expects to generate an addition of 3,351 MW of electricity from the first phase of its fast-track 10,000 MW program throughout the year.
With around 3,175 MW of electricty generated last year, the program ? which mostly uses coal to fire the power plants (PLTU) - would supply a total of 6,526 MW by the end of the year to bring the total capacity to around 38,000 MW, the firm revealed at a parliament hearing Wednesday evening.
?PLN targets the program to be completed by 2014, with another 2,191 MW scheduled to come on stream in 2013,? said President Director Nur Pamudji during the hearing with the House of Representatives? Commission VII.
Nasri Sebayang, Director of Construction at PLN, said the additional electricity this year is expected to come from PLTU Lontar 3 (315 MW), PLTU 2 Jabar (350 MW), PLTU Pacitan (2x315 MW), and PLTU 2 Paiton (660 MW) for the Java and Bali grid.
In the western part of the country, there are PLTU Nagan Raya (2x110 MW), PLTU Tarahan (2x100 MW), PLTU Tanjung Balai Karimun (2x7 MW), dan PLTP Ulubelu (2x55 MW). And for the eastern Indonesia are PLTU Asam-Asam (2x65 MW), PLTU Kendari (2x10 MW), PLTU Barru (2x50 MW) PLTU Amurang (2x25 MW), PLTU Lombok (30 MW), PLTU Kupang (25 MW) and PLTU Ende (2x7 MW).
PLN would also get electricity from the Independent Power Producer (IPP) projects, namely PLTU Paiton Expansion (800 MW), PLTU Tanjung Jati 4 (600 MW), PLTU Cirebon (660 MW), combined cycle power plant PLTGU Sengkang (20 MW), PLTU Pangkalan Bun (2x7 MW), PLTU Jeneponto (2x115 MW) and geothermal power plant PLTP Lahendong (20 MW). ?By the end of 2012, our total capacity is targeted to reach 38,000 MW,? said Nasri.
