PLN tasked to build 26 power plants

In line with Energy and Mineral Resources Minister?s regulation No 1/2012, the government has assigned state electricity company PLN to build 26 power plants using different kinds of energy such as renewable, coal and gas, and to expand their transmission facilities.

The regulation replaces the previous minister?s regulation No 15/2010 which had similar contents. The difference is that in the regulation No 15.2010, PLN was assigned to build 21 power plants. Changes in the Minister?s regulation No 1/2012 include nine power plants which were previously to be offered to independent power producers are taken over by PLN

The changes also include the addition of PLTA Masang 2 hydropower plant in West Sumatra (55 MW), and the replacement of the PLTU Sabang coal-fired power plant PLTGB Sabang coal and gas fired power plant with a capacity of 8 MW.

The Minister?s regulation No 1/2012 also stipulates that 12 transmission projects to be handled by PLN, 72 power plant projects and 47 transmission projects to be built in cooperation with independent power producers. The new regulation was signed by Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Jero Wacik on January 13.
