State-owned electricity company PT PLN is teaming up with car maker BMW Group Indonesia in developing charging stations for electricity cars in the country, Kontan reported on Friday.

General Manager of PLN for Greater Jakarta region, Ikhsan Saad said that the state utility firm has so far developed 924 charging stations in the Greater Jakarta Area as per December, and plans to increase it to 1,000 by end of this year. ?Next year, we?ll develop another 1,500 charging stations,? he said, but did not provide further details.

Meanwhile, Bisnis Indonesia quoted Head of Planning Bureau at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources? Secretary General, Agus Cahyono Adi as saying that the government is currently drafting a presidential regulation that would become legal basis for the development of electricity cars in the country. The regulation will also cover arrangements to push energy firms such as PLN and state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina to develop charging stations as non-fiscal incentives for car makers to produce electricity cars.

The 2017 National Energy General Plan (or RUEN) envisages the development of electricity or hybrid vehicles with a target of 2,200 cars and 2.1 million motorcycles by 2025. (*)
