State owned utility firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) is currently carrying out a tender for the construction of the Kerendan power plant for its Kalimantan power grid that will be supplied by the gas from the Salamander Energy-operated Kerendan field, according to the UK-based firm.
Salamander said in its first-half report it anticipates that PLN will be ready to start receiving gas in the first semester of 2014 and that Salamander's own facilities are on track to be completed well ahead of PLN's schedule.
The 320 MW power plant will be constructed 3 km from the Kerendan field, which contains 280 billion cubic feet (bcf) of certified resource.
During the first half of 2012 the DrillCo-1 land rig was mobilized to the Kerendan field and development drilling commenced in August 2012. Up to four development wells are planned and will be drilled through the rest of 2012.
These wells should provide sufficient feed gas to meet the Kerendan gas sales agreement with PLN, under which Salamander will supply 120 bcf of gas, and give confidence in the extent of the reservoir and its deliverability to allow the regulator to sanction incremental gas sales.
