PLN to add 55,345 MW power supply by 2020

State owned electricity company PLN said that it will provide additional power supply of 55,345 megawatt (MW) from both its own power plants and independent power producers (IPPs) by 2020..
Of the total additional supply, 31,958 MW will come from its own power plants, and the remaining 23,525 MW from IPPs, Murtaqi Syamsudddin, PLN Director for Planning and Risk Management, said.
He said that of the total about 35,573 MW will be provided by coal-fired power plants, 5,723 MW by hydropower plants, 6,247 by geothermal power plants, 3.263 MW by combined cycle power plants,4,.093 MW by gas-fired power plants and 441 MW by other power plants.
In the next 10 years, additional supply for Java and Bali will reach 36,222 MW, Western Indonesia 12,365 MW and East Indonesia 6,896 MW. ?In the next 10 years, half of the additional supply should come from IPPs in order to be able to meet the demand which rises between 7 and 8 percent a year,? he said
According to PLN?s long-term power plant development plan, the electricity demand will rise between 7 and 8 percent in Java and Bali, about 10.2 percent in West Indonesia, and 10,8 percent in East Indonesia. Nationwide, the demand will grow 8.46 percent a year.
