State electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) will announce the result of the re-tender of the construction of 10 coal-fired power plants outside Java by the end of September, Bisnis reported Wednesday.

“We shall announce the result by the end of this month," Yogo Pratomo, the head of the government's team for the fast track coal fired power plant construction program, said in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The re-tender of the 10 coal-fired power plant construction projects is part of the 25 power plant construction projects under the fast track power program outside Java designed to provide an additional power supply of 10,000 MW. The tender for the 15 projects has been completed, with most of the winning bidders being local firms partnering with Chinese companies.

Yogo said that the 10 coal-fired power plant construction projects were re-tendered because less than three bidders took part in the bid.

The 10 power plant projects are located in several different regions, including Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (2x100 MW), South Kalimantan (2x65 MW), Riau 1 (2x10 MW), Riau 2 (2x7 MW), Bangka Belitung (2x25 MW), West Kalimantan (2x25), West Nusa Tenggara (2x10 MW), East Nusa Tenggara (2x15 MW), North Maluku (2x7 MW), and South Sulawesi (2x50 MW).

The 10 coal-fired power plant projects worth around US$400 million are expected to be completed in 2009.

The construction of a coal-fired power plant with a capacity of up to 50 MW will need 24 months to complete. While, construction of a coal-fired power plant with a capacity of 100 MM and up to 300 MW will need around 30 months to complete. (*)
