PLN to assign 18 power plant projects to subsidiaries

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN is preparing to assign 18 power plant projects to be developed by its subsidiaries PT Indonesia Power (IP) and PT Pembangkitan Jawa Bali (PJB), instead of offering them to independent power producers, according to a source.

Nine of the power plant projects including coal-fired power plants (PLTU), combined-cycle power plant (PLTGU) and gas engine power plant (PLTMG) will be assigned to IP, and the balance to PJB.

?PLN is quietly assigning its subsidiaries to hold control over the IPP business. If it?s going to be this way, we?ll be facing difficulties to develop (our business),? said the source, an executive at an independent power producer to Petromindo.com.
