PLN to award power plant projects without tender

Monday, March 27 2006 - 02:07 AM WIB

State owned electricity firm PT PLN has decided to award contracts for the development of coal-fired power plants with a total capacity of 3,000 megawatt to investors through direct appointment process as part of the program to speed up the development of power plants in the country, Tempo reported on Monday.

PLN?s president Eddy Widiono was quoted by the paper as saying that he expected the direct appointment system would not cause controversies as long as it was carried out in a transparent manner.

PLN would announce to the public each step of the appointment process to ensure transparency and an agency would be formed to supervise the process.

?The agency will comprise representatives of related departments and supervise PLN,? he said.

The government has asked PLN to add the supply of power by 11,600 MW within two years to meet the public?s growing needs for power. (*)
