State owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday for the development of a new hydropower plant in Asahan, North Sumatra.
The new power plant called PLTA Asahan III will have two power units, each with a capacity of 90 Megawatt.
?The project is worth US$250 million. Funds for the project have been secured from JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency),? company president director Dahlan Iskan said on Monday, while noting that the firm will soon hold a tender for the EPC contract for the project.
He noted that the firm would go ahead with the project despite that it had yet to secure permit from North Sumatra?s governor. ?The most important thing is we have applied for such permit twelve times since 2004,? he said. (Bernard)
