PLN to build $240m overhead cable stretching from East Java to Bali

State electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) needs funds amounting to US$240 million to build overhead crossing electricity cable linking East Java to Bali island, the company?s senior officer said on Tuesday.
Director of planning and technology Nasri Sebayang said that PLN would develop the 500 kV high voltage alternating current (HVAC) Java ? Bali overhead crossing network, linking Paiton?Banyuwangi?Gilimanuk?New Kapal.
The project is expected to be completed in 2015 in two stages of development. First stage is expected to be completed in 2012, he said. ?If the project is completed, it will bring around 1,800 MW of electricity to Bali island,? he added. (bernard)
