State-owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) through its subsidiary PT Prima Layanan National Enjiniring will build a small biomass-based power plant in South Sorong, West Papua, with a capacity of 1-2 MW.
The power plant, which will use sago plant waste materials, will produce electricity and heat primarily to be supplied to sago processing facility owned by state forestry firm Perum Perhutani.
An MoU on the planned power plant project was signed on Friday by PLN President Director Nur Pamudji and his counterpart from Perhutani, Bambang Sukmananto. Perhutani plans to build a sago processing plant in Sorong with a daily capacity of 100 tons as part of efforts to help accelerate local economic development.
