PLN to build coal-fired plant in Wakatobi

State-owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) will soon start the construction of a 6 MW coal-fired power plant in Wangiwangi, the capital of Wakatobi Regency, Southeast Sulawesi. The groundbreaking for the project is scheduled for Monday, Wakatobi Regent, Hugua.

The electricity will be supplied to households and industries in Wakatobi, the regent said, adding that once the project is completed, the regency will enjoy an electricity surplus, which would bode well for the development of hotel industry and other businesses in the region. (*)
