State owned electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) plans to build a coal-fired power plant in the Dumai industrial estate in Riau with total investment of about Rp 3 trillion, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Thursday.

Doddy Pangaribuan, the general manager of PLN?s unit in Riau said that the power plant would have a capacity of 2 x 150 megawatt (MW). ?The construction cost will be about US$1 million per 1 MW. With this assumption, the total costs for the 300 MW will reach about $300 million or about Rp 3 trillion,? he said

He said that the company was currently preparing the location for the site of the power plant. According to him, the land for the plant location was acquired two years ago but the construction works could only be begun this year due to several problems,

Doddy said that the construction works would be completed within two years so the power plant would be able to begin commercial operation in 2015. The plant will be built on a 40-hectare land, which PLN bought from Wilmar Group as the owner of the Dumai industrial estate. (*)
