PLN to build coal-fired power plant in Riau

State utility PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) for the provinces of Riau and Riau Islands has planned to build a coal-fired power plant (PLTU) with a generation capacity of 2 x 10 Megawatt under the scheme of independent power producer (IPP) in Tanjung Balai Karimun, Riau province.
The company said in a tender announcement on Thursday, PLN said that the power plant has been agreed to be developed under the scheme of build, own, operate, and transfer (BOOT).
PLN hopes that the development of the power plant will enable the state company to supply more electricity to the region, which has seen its local demand rising.
