State-owned electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Nagara (PLN) plans to build a 2x10 MW gas-fired power plant in Sikka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, next year, to increase power supply in the region amid growing demand, a local report said.

Manager of PLN office in Flores, Elvis J. Sinambela was quoted by Kupang.com as saying Monday that the project will be located in Wairita, Waigete District, Sikka Regency.

He said that the company has completed the acquisition of 25 hectares of land for the project.

He said that once the gas-fired power plant has been completed, PLN will reduce the utilization of the existing diesel-fired Wailiti plant to save cost as gas is much cheaper than diesel. He added that PLN will lease out the Wailiti generation units. (*)
