State owned electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) will build a hydropower plant in Peusangan, Central Aceh to cope with the electricity shortage in the Nangroe Aceh Darussalam province.
PLN president director Nur Pamudji said on Wednesday that PLTA Peusangan hydropower plant, which would have two units each with a capacity of 22.1 megawatt (MW) was expected to begin commercial operation in 2016.
The hydropower plant project is partly financed by loans provided by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The electricity from the power plant would be connected to the high voltage North Sumatra-Aceh power transmission grid through the Takengon and Bireun distribution centers.
PLN has appointed PT Balfour Beatty Sakti Indonesia and PT Karunia to build the transmission facilities, naming Wika and Amarta to carry out the metal works for the hydropower plant.
"We hoped the construction of the transmission facilities could be completed less than 30 months so that the electricity could be distributed as soon as the plant is completed,? he added.
