PLN to build three gas engine power plants in 2015

State owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) plans to build three gas engine power plants (PLTMG) using compressed natural gas (CNG) as fuel next year, Kontan reported on Tuesday.

The CNG storage in Sei Gelam is designed with the capacity of 3 mmscfd, able to generate 60 MW of power. Thanks the PLTMG Sei Gelam, PLN wil able to cut the consumption of diesel oil by 60 kiloliters per day, PLN?s Gas and Oil Fuel Division Head Suryadi Mardjoeki was quoted as saying.

The CNG facility in Bangkanai is designed with the storage capacity of 5 mmscfd, able to generate 100 MW of power. It will enable PLN to cut its diesel oil consumption by 150 kl per day, he said.

Meanwhile, the CNG facility in Duri will have a storage capacity of 20 mmscfd, able to generate 400 MW of power. It will enable PLN to cut its diesel oil consumption by 600 kl per day.

Suryadi said PLN will first build PLTMG Duri, followed by the others. In the first phase, PLTMG Duri will be built with a capacity of 5 MW.

The PLTMG Sei Gelam is projected to cost US$7-8 million, the PLTMG Bangkanai $15 million, the PLTMG Duri $60 million.

The development of the projects is part of PLN?s efforts to cut the consumption of the expensive fuel oil, he said. (*)
